Description
This volume brings together interviews and writings by the prominent scholar, Orientalist, and historian Omeljan Pritsak (1919–2006), which appeared in the media following his return to Ukraine in the early 1990s. The views and reflections he shared 30 years ago—in general-interest, popular-science, and academic periodicals, as well as on television—regarding issues in Ukrainian and global scholarship, the role of science and the scholar in society, and the relations between Ukrainians and neighboring peoples remain as relevant today as they were then.
O. Pritsak’s candid accounts of his life, his development as an individual and a scholar, the complex challenges he faced, and his scholarly achievements and plans—particularly regarding independent Ukraine—constitute valuable material for the creation of a scholarly biography of the scientist.
