Description

The monograph is the first fundamental scientific study the ascetic activity of the artist Maria Raevska-Ivanova, who in 1869 opened an art and industrial school in Kharkiv – the first in Ukraine. The school’s system of education was laid with a focus on the artistic movement in European countries due to the problem of convergence of art and industry. The school’s founder was a specialist in European education and the first woman artist in the Russian Empire, including Ukraine. The opening of an art school of art and industrial type was due to the rapid development of the machine industry in the “factory” Kharkiv in the second half of the nineteenth century and the formation of a modern image in the architecture of the city. Raevskaya-Ivanova played a special role in the shaping of design education in Kharkiv. At the same time, the school retained the form of education and easel types, although, among its graduates, the representatives of this sphere accounted for a small percentage. For the first time, the monograph reveals the current and contemporary features of the artistic and pedagogical system of the Raevska-Ivanova’s school and its’ role in the city’s creative life. The book is designed for professionals and all those interested in design, fine and decorative arts.
