Description

The late ornamental compositions by Vasyl Krychevskyi, created during his emigration in Venezuela, are distinguished by their vibrant color palette. The ornament, dated 1951, is characteristic of this period.

Four parallel zigzags create a diagonal movement within the ornament and form “niches” for geometricized small flowers, which become the dominant motif of the composition. The stems and leaves follow a sinusoidal trajectory, bending and “smoothing out” the sharp angles of the zigzags.

At first glance, the ornament may appear as a fusion of curved lines and multicolored “patches”, but a few attentive glances reveal how the depicted elements “converge” into an elegant composition.
